What awaits you
The city was probably founded in the 8th century during the Franconian colonisation. Due to its location, it was an important traffic and trading point towards Franconia, the Rhön and the Thuringian Forest.
From 1680 to 1918, Meiningen was a royal seat and developed into a spiritual and cultural centre. To this day, theatre, music, classicist architecture and spacious parks characterize the cityscape.
