What awaits you
The origins date back to 1736. Between 1888 and 1890, the historic castle building was redesigned according to English models on behalf of Duke Georg II. The result is considered extraordinary in Thuringia.
The park covers around 160 hectares, making it one of the largest historic parks in Germany. Meadows, groups of trees, woodland sections and lines of sight create a landscape that is intended to look natural.
Special places include the Foerster Bench, which commemorates Karl Foerster, who worked as an assistant in the Altenstein castle nursery in 1893.
